Birth Stories
So we laughed made an appointment to see the OB who greeted me with "Wasn't I supposed to see you for an IUD?" I get it-I procrastinate too much! My bad!
I desperately wanted a boy this time so my two babies would be boys. I also desperately wanted Baby to be born on Wes's birthday this time but it was 3 weeks early so I didn't think too much about it. We found out we were having a boy-yay!
At 30 weeks I started having contractions every night. I knew they weren't going to do anything so I didn't worry about them, OB was worried and I had to go to the hospital for nothing. I left both grateful and annoyed. The contractions continued every night.
At my or 37 week appointment (Thursday) OB couldn't find his heart beat-I wasn't worried, he found it but wanted to monitor me. So I called Wes and went next door to the hospital. I was starting to freak out-I did not want to go to the hospital alone! I decided to move the car since it would be late when I got out. The Jars Of Clay song "He will lift up You Head" was on-the end repeats "It will soon end in joy" it was as if God's voice was coming out of the speakers and going directly to my heart-"It will soon end in Joy!" Wes got there we had another ultrasound, monitored a few hours-all was good I went home. I was beginning to get sick of leaving the hospital with no baby! Wes' birthday was Saturday but I wanted to have his celebration on Friday "just in case" That night I called the Dr. on call and told her I wasn't sure if I was in labor. Jokingly I said "You'd think being my third baby I'd know by now!" She said "Oh, this is your third baby? You need to come in."
So we went in walked all over that hospital through the night-stopping at the vending machine to get Hunny Buns and blue berry muffins (yum!). At 10:00 the Dr. checked me and said I'd have a baby in about an hour. No sooner did everyone leave then I frantically hit the nurse's button to say it was time and I was in PAIN!! I had an epidural with my other two and they were perfect-I could write poetry about how wonderful they were, no pain, all movement control-I knew when to push, felt babies emerge into this world with nothing but joy! It was the way birth was meant to be! But not with Baby. I should have passed when my nurse said at 4 in the morning "Ill go wake the anesthesiologist." Yeah, inserting tiny tubes between vertebrae is not something you should do after rolling out of bed! As he inserted the tube I said, "It's all going to my right side," he said "I'll adjust it."-it didn't work. I could not feel my legs-I could however feel everything north of legs...not good.
The nurse came in checked me as I was breathing through contractions waiting for the Dr. She frantically calls for nursery, calls for Dr, raises up and disassembles my bed. I'm moaning and yelling at the anesthesiologist, the nurse was prepping my and I said "OW!" She said "You can feel that?" (Duh! What do you think all the moaning was about???) then she said, "If you need to push, push." I did, and Baby was born. The nurse throws Baby to the nursery lady with out showing him to me, Wes runs over there with the camera. The side of the warmer bed fell off and the lady asked Wes to stand there. Then the Dr. comes strolling in with her Starbucks and said "Sorry, I couldn't find a parking space." Ugh.
Baby was born on Wes' birthday, he's still a little bitter.
