There's no place like Home(school)

Hey! If I ever get to write a book-that's what I'll call it...unless it's not about homeschooling...that just wouldn't make any sense. Good morning to all 7 of my readers...who no doubt will be reading this in about 3 weeks after we already talked about everything I'm posting...I'm not bitter...really...you complain when I don't blog enough and then don't notice when I blog every day...hmmm...can you tell I'm "hormonal" (read "PMSy") @@

I went to the library yesterday and Miss Wendy the lovely Librarian said all surprised "Is school out today?" "No, we home school" I smile "We're on a field trip." Miss Wendy said "Oh! Where are you going!?" I smile again and glance around at the three kids, the double stroller full of books, jackets, snacks, toys, and anything else needed to get babies and toddlers through an afternoon at the library..."Here..."

I did not put together that yesterday was tax day so the library was FULL of people getting their free tax help. There was an old biker guy taking up an entire table in the kids section with some sloppily scrawled notes, a few encyclopedias and a type writer...yes type writer complete with white out...working on...I don't know his tenth grade paper on economics that is 45 years over due...his economics paper would be today's history lesson on the Industrial Revolution...oh, that's mean...I'll take that back..my bad.

Last week I was babysitting two 5th and 7th grade boys who could not get their minds around homeschooling, not having a set schedule, not having homework, no dress code, and "What would happen if Eliya got suspended?" They asked me and Eliya a bunch of questions, really good questions, they were especially bright boys, and from the other room I heard Eliya say "I had the choice to go to school, I decided to be home schooled." Oh how my heart filled with love and pride for my daughter, for homeschooling, and for the bravery I had to allow her to choose, but most of all that she chose to stay home.

Poor baby! Mandy, it happens! I also am homeschooling. Jessica 13, 8th grade and Rebekah 8, 3rd grade. There are days, but most I KNOW I am doing what God has called me to do.

I too faced a "choice" with homeschooling this year. I didn't want to force the girls. They went back and forth. The choice I gave them was to go back to school for 9 weeks and see what they thought, or homeschool for 9 weeks and see what they thought. They chose to homeschool for the 2nd year and see how it goes. Oh how there are days I'd like to drag my 3rd grader to the school and let someone else raise her, but OH the blessings God is already showing me for obeying his calling. I enjoy your blog. Heather sent it to me! I want to do one just don't know how.
